Álvaro Octavio Díaz
Born in Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real), he began his flute studies at the age of six with Joaquín Mira and Ana Alcaraz. He obtained the Extraordinary Prize at the end of his studies at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Madrid under the tutelage of Manuel Guerrero. He continued his studies in Madrid with Miguel Ángel Angulo and at the Royal Academy in London with Jaime Martín and Katie Hill.

Later he was selected to join the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where he studied under the tutelage of Emmanuel Pahud, Andreas Blau and Michael Hásel, during a period of two years of training within the orchestra, in addition to receiving advice from teachers such as William Bennet, Klaus Tunneman and Radovan Vlatkovic.
He has been a member of the Gustav Mahler JugendOrchester, European Union Youth Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchester, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España and Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid.
He has been flute soloist of the Orquesta Filarmonica Toscanini and collaborates with orchestras of the stature of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Zurich Opera Orchestra, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra or Munich Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra or the Munich Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons, Daniel Baremboin or Ricardo Chailly.
He teaches flute and piccolo at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco (MUSIKENE).
He is a founding member of Ibercámara and ArteUnita and collaborates with the Sharoum Ensemble, Die Berliner 14 Flötisten, the Ensemble Capuçon and the trio Arbós. He conducts courses and master classes throughout Spain, as well as in Youth Orchestras such as those of the Community of Madrid, Andalusia, Murcia, Valencia and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain.
He is currently solo flute of the Orquesta y Coros Nacionales de España after having been for eleven years solo flute of the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana (resident of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia), as well as of the Orquesta de Cadaqués.
