Mikolaj Konopelski
Born in Katowice (Poland) in 1985. Since the 2019-2020 academic year, he has been an adjunct professor of the Aline Friel-Destezet Chair of Cello at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia, in the class of Professor Ivan Monighetti.
He studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (Poland), where he received the Magna Cum Laude Diploma as best student (2009). He completed his training at the Queen Sofia School of Music (2007-2011), in the Chair of Cello with Professor Natalia Shakhovskaya where he received from the hands of Her Majesty Queen Sofia the Diploma of most outstanding student.

Since 2009 he has been a professor with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, the resident orchestra of the Teatro Real, a position he combines with an active career as a concert pianist. His repertoire ranges from renaissance to contemporary music.
He has recorded for Televisión Española, RNE Radio Clásica, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Catalunya Radio and Polish Radio. He has received numerous awards in national and international competitions, such as the Lutoslawski International Competition (Poland), Penderecki Music Competition in Krakow (Poland), Jeunesses Musicales in Belgrade (Serbia), Joventudes Musicales in Bilbao, Joventudes Musicales in Manresa, International Chamber Music Competition in Thessaloniki (Greece), National Cello Competition in Elblag (Poland), Dotzauer Cello Competition in Dresden (Germany), Popper Cello Competition in Varpalota (Hungary) and Wilkomirski Cello Competition in Poznan (Poland).
He has performed as soloist with European orchestras, highlighting his interpretation of György Ligeti’s Concerto for cello and orchestra at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid.
He has been leader of the cello section of the IJOA in Bayreuth (Germany) for three seasons. He was soloist of the group “Cellonet” (2007-2012) and of the Octeto Ibérico (2009-2010). Since 2014 he has been a soloist with the Plural Ensemble.
He is frequently invited to give cello masterclasses in Spain and abroad. His students have won prizes in national and international competitions.
