Luis Otero Herranz, double bass
Born in Sevilla (Spain) in 1982, he began playing double bass at nine years old with professor Antonio García Araque and Daniel Machado.
Since 1996 to 2002 he studied at Reina Sofia´s Music High School in Madrid, with the professors Ludwig Streicher, Rainer Zepperitz and with the above mentioned Antonio García Araque.
He was awarded as the Most Outstanding Student of the Faculty of Double Bass in the school year 1998-1999 and of the Faculty of Chamber Music in the school year 1999-2000.
He has been a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao (Symphony Orchestra of Bilbao) during seasons 2003-2006.
He has served on the bass sections in many orchestras: Orquesta Nacional de España (Spanish National), Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orchestra Mozart di Bologna, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, as principal bass in Orquesta de Castilla y Leon, Orquesta de Cadaqués and as assistant in Orquesta Ciudad de Barcelona (OBC), playing concerts in Spain, Europe and United States. He is professor of the Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid. (Madrid Community Youth Orchestra).
He has performed as soloist in many Spanish cities, as well as chamber concerts.
Nowadays (since January 2007) he is the principal double bass in the Orchestra of the Comunidad de Madrid (Symphony Orchestra of Madrid Community).
